Avant Browser

Avant Browser is a popular freeware web browser from a Chinese programmer named Anderson Che, which unites the Trident layout engine built into Windows (see Internet Explorer shell) with an interface intended to be more feature-rich, flexible and ergonomic than Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (IE). It runs on Windows 98 and above, including Windows Vista. Internet Explorer version 6 or 7 must be installed.
As of November 2008, total downloads surpassed 22.5 million.
Avant Browser is currently available in 41 languages.

Ma.gnolia is a social bookmarking web site comparable to Delicious or Simpy. A prominent feature that distinguishes it from other similar web sites is the group feature, which allows several users to share a common collection of bookmarks. The group is managed by a selected number of group managers. Users may rate bookmarks and mark bookmarks as private.

100 top sites for the year ahead

The online world has changed dramatically even since we last drew up a list of 100 useful sites in December 2006. In the interim, there has been a revival of the browser wars – with Google’s Chrome and Apple’s Safari making surprising inroads into the Windows monopoly, and offering a new vision of what browsing can be like.
Many of the sites listed here were not available when we did our last list; although longevity is a mark of pride online, it is difficult for companies set up in the 1990s …
